You're probably right! Not that I've seen much of him, comparatively... but I can't imagine it could get much better than that?
[unfortunately the sadism is mutual to at least some degree. looking at wis's lines about loving how someone looks when they realize they've tripped a mine and shaking my head.]
... must've been a pretty shitty guy to grow up with.
Some things you can't choose, and some things can't help but be unfortunate. You might have survived fine in my family, but your anger would be a certainty.
[ the way wis quickly chose to kill and the way her temper flares just like a bomb and how good she is with them... those are all things that line up with her family ideals. choosing the duty free item to heal people, though. that's what separates her. ]
[ it doesn't surprise roxana to see wis'adel torture whoever that is. she can understand that wis'adel wants vengeance for whomever her highness is, but it's the next parts that leave her wondering more.
concepts that are more meaningful and a history that goes deeper than what the memory brushes against. ]
There are worse fates than simple death, but it looks like whatever you were trying to do there isn't that simple either.
Is the peace you're trying to foster part of your revenge, or something separate?
My revenge has always been its own thing-- but the one who set her death up in the first place doesn't even remember how or why, so what's the point of killing them for it before they can give me better answers?
...besides, we've kinda needed them to help with that peace anyway.
[distasteful. having to rely on that 'evil spirit', the one who killed her highness, the one who had always instilled a healthy sense of fear in her from the moment she laid eyes on them. the danger they could pose was clear, but the help they can offer...
that's clear, too. they're the best tactician she's ever seen.]
The Sarkaz should be free. I might've learned it from her, but-- I believe in it, too, I'm not just doing this for her sake.
[ roxana can understand a complicated relationship like that. someone who inspires revulsion for what they've done to you or someone important to you yet their usefulness is unmistakable, their necessity too much to disregard. ]
Amnesia can be so convenient sometimes. May you receive your answers soon.
[ that's something she'd want for someone who was taken from her, too. ]
Ourselves. Our whole history, pretty much...? And the myriad, until pretty recently.
[theresa took care of that part, even if it leaves a lot of questions about what happens now.]
See, we've never been very far from death. People think we're just being weird and religious about it or whatever, but our ancestors and all the Sarkaz who've died-- their souls were a lot closer to us than anyone else would know. They'd join the myriad souls and go be with all the other dusty stiffs who couldn't let go of the shit that happened to them or all of their suffering or whatever, and then it'd still be our problem! It's like... like just knowing they're angry, we could feel it, we were connected to the myriad since before we were even born.
So it was just this vicious cycle, you know? Get born from all these pissed off souls stuck in the past. Live in a world where everyone else would pretty much be fine with it if we all up and died, that'd just be convenient for 'em. Die, go join them again in their eternal bad vibes, and keep inflicting them on the rest of the living Sarkaz.
It sounds like your race was set up to be miserable. Is the cycle broken yet? It seemed like what you did in the memory was trying to break free from it.
It seems like it...? Her Highness freed the myriad and took them... somewhere. I don't know what happens to us now when we die, but I know the Sarkaz souls aren't trapped anymore.
[after a pause:]
... but that doesn't just erase the fact most Sarkaz have been surrounded by war, either. We've still got to prove to the stubborn old fucks that we don't need it.
There's enough to cause some trouble... but we've got the Liches pretty solidly on our side, and we'll probably be able to get the Banshees' help if we really need it. The Vampires' crusty old king is dead, the Nachzehrers are just going to be a constant problem no matter what... yeah, so the royal court tribes are allllmost all accounted for.
Babel's busy working with the Liches to try and get people educated on what else they can do with their skills, set up writing-to-voice spells on all the message boards... but that's all a totally separate thing from me!
[surprising absolutely no one they did not ask wiš'adel to help teach SHIT. wow. can't imagine why.]
[ oh, these are races she knows of now. nonhuman... is what she gets from this. ]
It sounds like your whole group is working on improving things overall. You all have your own strengths.... and yours are doing something other than educating.

[ that's something she won't shy away from. it's something her father deserves. ]
He never looked better in his life.

Guess family isn't always a good thing even for people that do have 'em.

[her anger's explosive, sure, but she can wait if she really has to. play a longer game if the payoff is right. track people down one by one by one.
