[ she's seated in the gate area, and the moment kate comes anywhere close, she'll pat the chair next to her. ]

Kate, right? Won't you come sit next to me?

[ kate pauses, seemingly surprised at the sudden invitation... ]

Are you sure?

[disingenuous]

I wouldn't have asked, if I wasn't. A little soot won't hurt me. You were the one who got the case opened for us yesterday.

[ she pats again, just once. ]

[sootprints]

Oh... you saw that?

[ well... okay. she'll come over and sit. ]

You are... Roxana, is it?

[disingenuous]

It was a little hard to miss after hearing all the glass shatter. [ which roxana was more than fine with happening. ] It was helpful to many of us.

I am. It's a pleasure.

Week 0, Sunday

[sootprints]

[ after execution, kate is headed towards the relaxation area. as always, it can be hard to tell what she's feeling, but she does turn her head to look at roxanna. ]

... Were they like that for you, too? Before, that is.

[ in the other game. ]

[ roxana is seated and nods in greeting more than in answer. ]

The colors weren't quite as on display, but it was similar enough.

The colours...?

You saw, didn't you? The ones that surrounded Boothill today.

[ a nod. ]

I heard that the colours... gave you powers? But that they could become unstable...

Week 1, Tuesday

[sootprints]

[ kate can be found in scawwy!

she's by the pyre in the village, looking at the posters on the noticeboard. ]

[disingenuous]

[ she slowly approaches kate and looks over some of the posters. ]

Is there anyone you miss?

[sootprints]

... Yes. A lot of them.

[ she'll look to scien's poster... ]

For one... Scien was someone who gave me advice whenever I was troubled. He was gentle, but he didn't sugarcoat things just because I'm a child. A lot of people won't talk about painful things with children, but... however scary the truth is, being left in the dark is much scarier. I think he understood that.

[ kate makes scien sound so favorable, so roxana can't help but nod along even if she wouldn't be able to stand him in reality. ]

He sounds like he treated you how you wanted to be treated but also how you should. There are some things that can't be avoided, especially when murder surrounds you. Do you think you'd have an easier time with him here?

[sootprints]

... Perhaps so. I do wish I could go and talk to him, like before.

But, maybe relying on him too much would mean I haven't grown much since then. I should try to be adaptable...

Week 1, Friday

[sootprints]

[ kate's just on one of the couches in the relaxation area. she's wearing a hoodie and a skirt, and while it's hard to tell what the state of her injuries is, it looks like her left leg is bandaged.

it looks like she hasn't moved around much today; she has a half-empty glass of water and a book at her side, as well as her phone close at hand. there's a steady stream of smoke that rises from her head. she lifts her head when she sees roxana, but doesn't say anything right away. ]

I hope someone carried you here today, Kate. How are you feeling today?

[ injury-wise. emotions-wise. roxana sits on a nearby couch. ]

... A little shocked, to tell the truth.

Because it's two? Or because it's Vi and Anders?

[ or both. ]

Or something else?

[sootprints]

The latter. I've seen weeks where lots of people died before, so that isn't as surprising...

But, yesterday, it felt like I could handle anything with Vi and Wis'adel there with me... We stuck together, until late into the evening. I couldn't imagine her just disappearing by morning.

Week 2, Saturday

[sootprints]

[ kate's showing up at the jail. hi. she's changed her clothes but the new ones are already looking a little sooty. ]

... Roxana. Can we talk?

[disingenuous]

[ kate, your soot. roxana doesn't look too bothered from where she's seated on the bed. ]

Of course, Kate. What would you like to talk about?

[sootprints]

... I'll start with the obvious question.

The murders. Were you responsible for one of them?

[disingenuous]

Why don't you tell me if you think I am?

[sootprints]

... I don't know. You were a suspect for two of the cases, and we couldn't even rule you out for the others. Out of everyone, you fit most of the evidence.

But... nothing fit perfectly. And because you never volunteer any more information than is necessary, there were a lot of gaps in our information. And I know very little of what you may be capable of...
