[ it's a little bit embarrassing to be called out like that so immediately, but it's not like he's ashamed of it. vax has always had a soft spot for kids - it's the older brother in him - so he just nods a little, ducking his head. ]

I've got the ability to, sometimes. Usually. [ he gestures at himself a little bit with some humor, because he's not doing much right now. ] ... but I'm with you. Rather just find whatever's at the root of it and chase it out. Can't say I'm much of a detective.

I wouldn't call myself a detective either. I can put puzzle pieces together, but I need the puzzle pieces first.
