They really can. Last time, it kept showing people memories where I lost my leg... not only do I have it back already, but apparently it made them think I was somebody else? Why is limb loss so common in these things? It's the worst!
Ah, well... the last place I was in was very much like this one - full of people who had been involved in experiences like this already. [she rubs at the back of her neck.] I and a few others were in a similar position as our hosts here. So, with my face covered, they didn't precisely know it was me, and well... they knew someone in their prior experiences who had suffered the same sort of limb loss...

That's the infuriating thing! It didn't! He was able to rationalize it as one of his troop duties, since the order came from Vice-Captain Hijikata, so he ended up not batting so much as an eyelash about it once he chose them.

It was probably for the best. As you've said, he likely doesn't see much other than how to use his sword, and the effort to make him look anywhere else...
Okita-sensei wouldn't be Okita-sensei if he acted any other way. Captain Kondo and swordplay are the two most important things in the world to him. Vice-Captain Hijikata is up there as well, as annoying as it is to admit it.
